Tooling Designer or Tooling Engineer

Location – Penticton, BC

Hourly Rate – Up to $33.66/hour depending on qualifications.

Experience Requirements – 3+ (consideration will be given to all candidates who have completed at least 3 years of a design or engineering program)

Note: If you lack experience with foundry tooling, but have design skills and are eager to learn, consider applying. We have the ability to train the right individual.

Who You Are

You love to know how things work, and the process of turning ideas into reality is definitely in your wheelhouse.

Highly organized and detail-driven, you take pride in using software to create 2D and 3D images that meet customer expectations. Collaborative by nature, you’re comfortable interacting with various manufacturing departments to get the job done.

You’ll fit in beautifully with your strong work ethic, self-motivation and willingness to go the extra mile. Your design skills and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a willingness to learn, will be prized here. You have experience with 3D modeling software, (like AutoCad and/or KeyCreator), and can apply that knowledge to the foundry tool (pattern) making process.

Tooling Design

Using the drawings provided, you’ll use software to create patterns from scratch. These patterns are used in our state-of-the-art foundry to make no-bake sand moulds. All CNC-made patterns are currently purchased from our vendors, but much of the design work is done at Penticton Foundry, which is why CAD experience is needed.

Casting Quality

You’ll gain valuable insight into what makes a successful pattern for the operation. You’ll work closely with various departments to resolve casting defects, and address other operational needs.

Software training will be provided. It will show you how to review the cooling process, and flow of metal in the mould, based on the tooling you’ve designed. This is critical to the casting making process.

  • 3+ years of relevant design experience
  • 3D modeling software (like AutoCAD or KeyCreator)
  • Solidification software experience would be an asset (like SolidCast)
  • Able to read drawings
  • Preference given to those with post secondary certifications in design or engineering
  • Woodworking skills would be an asset
  • Able to work autonomously
  • Team minded – strong desire to help fellow team members and employees be successful
  • Respectful and hard working
